The 2009 calls for service have been tallied and the data is impressive. 2009 was a very busy year for Wapello Fire and Rescue. In addition to being the busiest year in the history of the department in terms of call volume, legislation passed by the state was adopted by our department requiring a minimum of Firefighter I equivalent training for our members as well as 24 annual hours of continuing education. Several of our members also hold EMS certifications or are currently enrolled in EMT courses so our membership's cumulative training hours for 2009 number in the thousands.
In terms of call volume, 2009 started and ended in normal fashion but we experienced an extremely busy Spring and Summer. During March and April we had 81 calls, mostly due to a busy wildland fire season and During June and July we responded to 71 calls. More information can be found on our Call Volume and Call History pages.
