Busy Week for Wapello Fire and Rescue
Sun. Apr 4th 2010

Wapello Fire and rescue had a busy week from 3/26/10 to 4/2/10 responding to several fires and medical emergencies. At 9:49 AM on Friday 3/26/10 WFD was paged to assist Morning Sun FD with a motor home on fire on L Ave. At 23:45 that evening, crews responded to a medical emergency. Saturday 3/27/10 started with two medical emergencies before late afternoon. At 16:06 that day WFD was paged for a field fire on 123rd Ave. and the night was closed out with another medical emergency call at 23:45.

At 1:17 in the morning on Tuesday 3/30/10, WFD was called to the Farmer’s Elevator for several anhydrous ammonia tanks that were leaking. At 13:41 that afternoon crews responded to a ditch fire on CR X-37.

The month of April started strong beginning at 14:19 on 4/1/10 with a large field fire that jumped a drainage ditch and burned towards a home on CR G-62. The fire was extinguished with assistance from Morning Sun, Grandview and Columbus Junction Fire Departments. Later that evening at 17:09, WFD was called to 55th St. for another field fire. This fire was controlled with assistance from Oakville FD and a wildland firefighting team from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. At 19:22 that same evening the department responded to a medical emergency.

Wapello Fire Department finished the week out with 3 calls on Friday 4/2/10 including a fire and two medical emergencies. In all, the department responded to 7 fires and 9 medical emergencies during the period from 3/26/10 to 4/2/10. Wapello Fire and Rescue would like to remind landowners to use caution when burning brush and grasslands and be alert for changing weather conditions, especially wind direction.
